Laura Gibson, Loch Lomond, Nick Jaina, Jeff London, Super XX Man, Adam Selzer (Norfolk & Western) Dave Depper (Loch Lomond, Norfolk, Blanket Music, etc.) Amy Annelle, Chad Crouch (Podington Bear, Blanket Music) and many other friends and family have contributed to the sprawling From The Land Of Ice And Snow: The Songs Of Led Zeppelin 2xCD Comipilation on Jealous Butcher Records.

It started out as a fantasy.
Rob (Jealous Butcher), Matt (Ward) and John (King) were sitting around the basement in the evening working on cover art for a project, espousing their love and respect for Led Zeppelin in their formative musical years. And wouldn’t it be nice to put together a tribute release featuring friends both near and afar, not being a “who’s who” sort of tribute, but rather a “community” inspired collection of Zeppelin songs.
One thing led to another and before he knew it, Rob was sending out a missive through his network, calling for submissions, wondering if anyone would even be interested. At the outset there was no real concern for pedigree, or professionalism, in the traditional manner, the only stipulation was that the tracks had to be good.
Fast-forward 6 years, 50 tracks, countless hours of recording, tracking, editing, mastering, talking, drinking, and thinking about all things Led Zeppelin. We now present you, dear reader, with the body of work. From The Land Of Ice And Snow: The Songs Of Led Zeppelin.<<
So I guess...

It has been a long time since I posted on here. I have been going in stages lately, posting for a few days then gone for a few months.

So I guess I owe everyone an update.

I am still obsessed with Led Zeppelin. Indeed, I think I'll be 99, with Alzheimer's, still being obsessed with Led Zeppelin. So don't worry... that hasn't changed.

A lot has, however...

First off, I don't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I no longer live in Georgia. I live now in Boca Raton, Florida with my dad. Yes, I said with my dad. No, my parents are not divorced or separated. Mom will be moving down here once my younger brother, who now attends Kennesaw State University (in Georgia), has finished his Freshman year so he can continue to pay in-state tuition as long as he goes there (GA law is weird... Aaron can't declare independence until he has gone through one year of college, so Mom has to live in GA until then).

So now I'm in Florida with my dad who's clergy (a Hazzan a B'nai Torah), and Rosh Hashannah started tonight. I'm in the choir for it.

My interests have also changed. I still feel the music industry is broken, but now, thanks to my dad, I'm hugely interested in Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, and (to a lesser extent) Theology, mainly because I really want to study and discover the origins of Fanaticism (the Middle East, Creationism, etc). Studying Cultural Anthropology will also allow me to study why torrenting (and other forms of music sharing) and bootlegs are so popular and perhaps make it easier for me to devise ways in which they could be used to bring money into the music industry, rather than fought against (as is being done now).

So anyways... I'm still looking for a job. Seems to be getting easier, but I don't have a job yet. Also, I'm trying to finish up at GPC which hit me with two classes I didn't know about when I though I had already graduated, so now I have to take them online during the upcoming spring semester.

So looking for a job, spending more time riding a bike, working out and, lately, trying to get some Creationists to realize that they're wrong and science is right (or otherwise making fun of the willfully ignorant ones who don't want to learn about evolution or cosmology or physics because the strawmen are easier to argue against, I guess) are a few of the reasons I haven't been on for a while.

I will try to be on more often, but it'll be one of those "depends on what I'm doing" things.

So anyways... how is PZ? How are y'all doing?

It appears that the Hammer of the Gods author, Stephen Davis, has a new LZ book due out October 28. Per Amazon it can be summed up thusly:

A revealing account of Led Zepplin's 1975 North American tour
including all- new interviews with-and insider information about-the
band, from the bestselling author of Hammer of the Gods.

As a young music journalist in 1975, Stephen Davis got the opportunity
of a lifetime: an invitation to cover the sold-out 1975 North American
tour of Led Zeppelin, the biggest and most secretive rock band in the
world, for a national magazine. He received a backstage pass, was
granted interviews with band members, and even got a prized seat on
the band's luxurious tour jet, The Starship. While on duty, he
chronicled the Zeppelin tour in three notebooks, but after writing his
article in 1975 he misplaced them. After three decades of searching,
in 2005 he finally found the notebooks, on the covers of which he had
scribbled the words "LZ-'75," and unearthed an amazing amount of new
information from the tour including:

• Lost interviews with canny vocalist Robert Plant and the brilliant
guitarist Jimmy Page

• Information on the rock icon who moonlighted as a heroin dealer

• Revelations about the identity of the lover about whom Robert Plant
sings in "What Is and What Should Never Be" and "Black Country Woman"

• A detailed chronicle of each performance from a musical perspective,
and a vivid account of the band members' extravagant, and often
troubled, lives on tour

Tied together by Davis's entertaining narrative, and including more
than forty never-before-published photographs, LZ-'75 is an
unprecedented and comprehensive personal portrait of the greatest (and
most notoriously press-shy) rock band in history at its apex.

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/...on-the-record-
Far from the wealth and success he enjoyed with Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant reveals that his first band wasn’t quite so successful, meaning he had to resort to being a part-time thief to get through the week.
The 62-year-old singer is now one of the biggest names in rock but it hasn’t always been that way.
While part of blues group Band Of Joy in the mid-60s with drummer pal John Bonham, Robert says: “We were better at siphoning petrol out of parked cars than we were at pulling crowds.
“We all meant it. We were at the point of starvation and would get involved in thievery.
“We would nick bottles of milk off the doorsteps in Manchester at 5am while tenants were waking up.”
Luckily the pair enjoyed more recognition as part of Led Zeppelin – as well as bigger paychecks.
But his past is not forgotten. Having called his new album Band Of Joy, in honour of his old bandmates, Robert says he is not all that different now.
“I feel as committed and as frivolous and in a way as carefree as I did when I had a rubber hose in the back of a Ford Prefect.”

1961 Prefect (last year available)

Met some friends for pierogis and brews at the city's biggest Polish festival, and to hear Kashmir, a midwestern LZ tribute, for the first time. Meh.

Visually, it was a hot mess. The paunchy, double chinned singer had some sort of platinum wavy shoulder length something (:confused:) on his head. Surely it was just a cheap wig and not his own hair, but platinum? I couldn't figure it out all night - and honestly, could barely stand to look at him. Yeah, it was that bad. Percy's fish pout was passable because he was hotter than Hades, but on a middle aged guy? Just creepy. The guitarist was very Jimmy '77 - whippet-thin, REALLY long hair (his own), but with silver moons and stars pants and sort of a poppy-esque top. Cute, with proper gear usage by song, but inexplicably he kept jumping off the stage into the crowd. Not too Jimmy-like there. The drummer was wearing a shirt reminiscent of TSRTS AND the bowler hat, while the bass player made no attempt to mimic JPJ in looks, dress or playing style. In fact he looked/played so much like Geezer Butler I wouldn't be surprised if he's also in a Sabbath band.

Aurally, it was better. The singer actually manages to sound a good bit like Robert, the guitarist was pretty accurate and his tone was nice - but he was the one who played the few bits of organ used. Very odd. The bass player was solid and the drumming was pretty good on an amber kit EXCEPT for the solo. He needs to go back and really listen to what Bonzo was doing with his bare hands, because it was not a bongo solo. The played some deeper cuts like In the Light, Royal Orleans, Out on the Tiles and Wanton Song, but also included some others in medleys. The guitarist was the real frontman, and he kept saying how they were playing for the love of the music. I thought that was nice.

IF they dropped all of the faux Zeppelin look and stage mannerisms, and just played the music being themselves, I might see them again. But as is, not so much.

If you're channel surfing and notice an upcoming show featuring LZ or a related topic, this is the place to share that knowledge with your fellow PZers! I know that I personally watched TSRTS any time I stumbled upon it, until I got wise and saved it on the DVR (sometimes putting in a dvd is too much hassle!).

Make sure you mention the channel, date and time (and country if your PZ location is of an esoteric nature! ;)).

First Up:

1) If you have DirectTV on demand, you can watch It Might Get Loud anytime before Sept 16!

2) VH1 has a new limited series premiering this Sunday (Sept 5), 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Led Zeppelin will appear on Hour 5, the episode for artist's 20-1 (I won't spoil the surprise by saying which place), which debuts on Thursday, Sept 9 at 9pm CDT in the USA.
Mods - maybe you can sticky this so folks can find it? Thanks!

Hello all!

I am writing let everyone know that I have tendered my resignation as an admin on PZ effective September 15 (gotta give two weeks notice! :o).

I have enjoyed my time as moderator and admin at PZ, and I am not disappearing, I just wanted to be "demoted" to a regular member at this point in time for personal reasons. I am now working (and enjoying!) two jobs, I have some other coals in some other fires, and I just do not have the time to put into the site I once had and that it deserves.

I know Bud and Gypsy would let me keep my status as admin even if I can't come here as much, but I just feel I'd rather close the book on my service or I will always feel like I should be doing something at PZ. And I'm finding now that people PM me because I am an admin and I do not get their messages for a while and often do not have the time to help them and I don't like feeling like I'm leaving people hanging.

I want to make clear this is a completely personal decision, that there is no other reason for it, and that I will still be visiting the site as much as I can. I only say this because there is so much behind the scenes stuff going in at various internet forums and I want to assure you all that there's nothing like that behind this decision. :)

Thanks to Bud and Gypsy for allowing me to serve such a great site and such a great group of people. I wish PZ nothing but the best for evermore. :)

If I was still living on the west coast I would SO attend this event! :hippy:

>>September 25, 2010, marks the 30th anniversary of the passing of LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham. His groove and sound is considered to be the most influential of all rock-n-roll drummers; John "Bonzo" Bonham is the undisputed king. Bonzo will once again be honored in a special concert featuring rock's biggest names behind the kit at the Key Club in Hollywood, California.

On stage and for one night only, a rotating cast of guest drummers perform their favorite LED ZEPPELIN songs.

Confirmed drummers include:

* Steven Adler (GUNS N' ROSES, ADLER'S APPETITE)
* Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, DIO)
* Kenny Aronoff (JOHN COUGAR, JOHN FOGERTY)
* Frankie Banali (QUIET RIOT)
* Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER)
* Fred Coury (CINDERELLA)
* Jimmy D'Anda (BULLETBOYS)
* James Kottak (SCORPIONS)
* Khurt Maier (SALTY DOG)
* Chris Slade (THE FIRM, AC/DC)
* Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, CHICKENFOOT)
* Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL)
* Joe Travers (ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, DURAN DURAN)
* Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO)

Carmine Appice (VANILLA FUDGE, ROD STEWART) will perform via video.

Joining the drummers on stage will be musicians Brent Woods (guitar), Michael "Denim" Devin (bass), Keith St. John (vocals), Stephen LeBlanc (keys) and Brian Tichy (guitar).

"Not a day goes by where I don't think of John Bonham's snare sound, and it hit me — 'Why isn't there a Bonzo tribute where every drummer gets up on a Vistalite kit, with gong and timpanis, and plays their favorite ZEPPELIN song?" co-organizer Brian Tichy, said. "I thought of all the drummers I know that worship at the alter of John Bonham and being in L.A., there are so many here."

Promoter Joe Sutton took care of the rest and has helped organize this striking tribute. His moxie for the all-mighty Bonzo and LED ZEPPELIN has never wavered.

"First and foremost, LED ZEPPELIN is the greatest band in the world and it is not a coincidence that John Bonham was the drummer," Sutton said. "Bonham's drumming is one of the main reasons that they were able to sound so huge."

Sutton continued, "I remember the day that John Bonham died; it broke my heart. Not only to lose a great man and the best drummer in the world, but to lose LED ZEPPELIN as a band was just devastating to myself and everyone I knew. So to have a chance to put together a tribute 30 years later for the almighty Bonzo I will use all of my efforts and experience to put together a very special night."

Tickets for "Bonzo: The Groove Remains The Same" can be purchased at Keyclub.com.

The Key Club is located at 9039 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. <<
